ABOUT - Matt Cannon- After nearly a decade as an Attorney litigating high-stakes intellectual property disputes, He returned to graduate school in 2017 to complete his Ph.D. in Berkeley's Jurisprudence & Social Policy Program.  His current research analyzes activism by inventors in the United States. The project connects his academic study of law and social movements to wide-ranging IP experience, that deals with innovators in fields ranging from telecommunications to medical devices.  Matt's research interests more generally include empirical study of intellectual property law and civil procedure, law and social movements, and computational text analysis.
 
 
What you will learn:
 
The INs and Outs of High Level Patent Litigation- To include actual experience and histories from when Matt worked for top Law Firms on cases involving smartphone user interfaces, network hardware, communication satellites, vascular closure devices, map data and related technologies, internet search, semiconductor architecture, and pharmaceuticals. Matt worked for and against independent inventors, patent licensing entities, late-stage startups, and the biggest companies in the world.
 
The Inventors Movement- Matt will share with us his research and findings that looks at how the national inventor movement led by the independent inventor (including several Inventor Network members) has developed into both a change-maker and stakeholder in American patent policy. 
 
The evening should be very satisfying and fulfilling to the curious who enjoy academic discussion and learning about advocacy and will include thought provoking high level conversation along with Q and A.
